Percy Janes Boarding the Bus

One of my favourite Agnes Walsh poems, "Percy Janes Boarding the Bus", is up on the Rattling Books blog. For those of you who may not know, Percy Janes was a wonderful Newfoundland writer who penned House of Hate, one of the finest novels ever to come out of the province.

Jeesh...I am only now seeing that you left a comment for me. My apologies Dear Tina!!!

It was a great night and $3700.00 was raised from the hair shedding. Lots more animals to get fixed:)

Take care.

I love this poem. It says so much about the speaker, Janes, and about us here in NL. Not that artists should get the red carpet everytime they sneeze -- does anyone hold open a door for a nurse, just because he's a nurse? send a shower of roses to thank a teacher who made a difference?. From what I can see, art in NL is at best thought of as another kind of work. Some people fish, some people build, some people sit in offices, some people write, sing, act, paint, etc.
